Angora

Angora comes from rabbits. It is spun into yarn and then used in needlework. Angora rabbits are domestic animals, bred mainly for their fiber . They originated in Turkey, as well as the angora cat and angora goat.

Angora rabbits were pets of the French royalty in the mid 1700’s. During the early 1900’s they were brought to the US.

There are four breeds that are recognized, English, French, Giant and Satin.

The fur grows continuously. As a result the fur needs to be, combed daily  and cut several times a year. 100% angora as a yarn is fragile, so it must be mixed with other fiber. I want to get some to spin. Who has spun it and what was that like?
